Overview:
I can save approximately $250 per month after all of my bills (minimums) are paid.

Here’s my financial “picture”:
Total Credit Card debt $11,700, minimum pymts $420/mo.
Interest rates from 7.24% up to 18% (high % are my gas cds)

Here are my two options:
Option #1. Save, save and save for many months….then in swift bulk payments pay off the bills all (but one account) at once. This would take me 27 months to pay off (which is an oxy-moron comment since my gas cards are on-going building balance of over $700 now). I did this “technique” 8 yrs ago & was debt-free until 9/11 causation unemployment for 1 yr hit.

Option #2. Do as I’ve been doing, which is to focus on one card at a time and pay it off, starting with the higher% rate or smaller balances cards, and roll those payments toward others.

I’m weary of the depression & anxiety each month. What has worked for you, personally? Just need reassurance!

Lopez, you had some good ideas about the gas credit card monster. I can ride a bike to one job, my full timer. The car is a huge debt, but hafta have bc hubby is in a wheelchair and the Murano has the seat height, legroom, and trunk room for his wheelchair, so stuck w/that and he HAS to get out on weekends bc he gets cabin fever during the week, so…. And no public rail or bus here (voted out in 1980), car pooling to pt job won’t work-only 3 of us work there. So, may see if my bike is suitable to use, since it’s been out on a covered patio for 4+ yrs. Will see about that.
Kelly - WOW what a testimony!

Here’s the kicker, hubby has Dave Ramsey’s book, gathering dust. I may have to borrow it for a while, huh???'>I have two ways I can pay down my debts.

Is there anyone I can work with or anything I can do on my own to get the creditors to knock off all the interest thats built up and consolidate all my debt into one monthly payment?
(I cannot qualify for a debt consolidation loan from my bank, before anyone suggests that.)
I have heard that the debt counseling companies also charge you and you end up even more in debt and not really coming out on top.

My husband works for the Gov. so it is very important he stay current and no bankruptsy ect. Our plan is to sell a vehicle that we are having trouble paying for each month ($518 a month payments) Once we sell that we are going to apply that money toward our debts as such……Credit loan #1 (which is currently $90 mth and bal of $600) Apply $518 mth and $90 until paid off. When paid off apply the $518 a month + $90 mth + Credit loan #2 monthly payment amt. until paid off. We keep doing this with all our debts until they are all paid off. This is called the Snow Ball effect. because the payments get bigger as you go along. Anyhow, the problem its taking forever to sell the Van. Ideas?

Why not use the millions of dollars on our own country, paying back our debt.

I mean, If I’m in debt, I don’t give my friend 100 bucks everyday.
I mean, why can’t Israel get its own money from its citizens instead of being dependent on the old USA?
Iran wouldn’t dare invading Israel. We don’t have to give them money like everyday is x-mas for Iran to know the USA will do something if they ever try something like that.

I know that banks are being rather picky about whom they give loans to and want you to have a substantial down payment. With our tax return we could put down around $10,000

We have around $2500 in credit card debt (had to purchase all new furniture and and are not paying interest)
Around $6000 left on both of our cars so we’ve already payed the interest on them so I don’t know if it would make sense to pay them off early.
I guess I didn’t make it very clear…too many thoughts racing at one time haha.
I was referring to the $2500 that would be wiped out. I wasn’t really considering the car loans, since the term is almost up we have already payed the interest on them so paying early wouldn’t necessarily save us any money.

As far as our taxes go we will be getting every tax break imaginable this year since I had a baby, we’ve relocated TWICE for jobs…(both my husband and I) and because of that we’ve donated umpteen million things to various non profit organizations. Still working out the kinks as far as finding someone who can get us the most money back.'>My husband and I are house hunting and with tax returns coming soon I was wondering if we should use the return to wipe out all of our debt or put more money towards a down payment on a house.

I have a lot of credit card debt but half of it is interest. I had a lot of financial troubles over the last two years and had to stop paying all of them completely. I am finally in a place where I can start making minimum payments and try to rebuild my credit again.
Can someone who has been in this situation clue me in on some of my options?
