Do you think the Federal Reserve is irrelevant?

When they first came in they said they would never allow a crisis happen however we have had 2 major crises on their watch. Now they say they need more power.
I don’t think we need them.
Your thoughts?
Real unemployment figures are at 20%. It is the governments’ rosy figures that are low.
When they came in they said the economy would never be in a mess since they are in charge.
